The European Reform University Alliance is steadily gaining ground in the operations of the eight universities participating in this effort and is becoming increasingly recognized within their communities as well as across Europe. The goal is to serve as a strategic lever for development and a pilot project for reforming university operations in Europe.

Last week, the University of the Aegean welcomed the General Secretary of the European Reform University Alliance (ERUA), Ms. Bruna Vives, based at the University Paris 8, for a productive three-day visit that underscores the University of the Aegean’s commitment to promoting, as a strategic choice, cooperation and innovation in the European academic landscape through the ERUA Alliance.

The program included multiple introductory meetings with academic and administrative staff, particularly with the Rector and Vice-Rectors of the University of the Aegean, where the goals and prospects of the Alliance, especially during its second development phase until 2027, were presented. The university authorities had the opportunity to reiterate their support for the Alliance’s actions within the context of the institution’s systematic efforts towards internationalization and outward orientation.

The scientific coordinator of the program for the University of the Aegean, Professor Elena Theodoropoulou, along with all the staff of the ERUA Office of our university, took advantage of this visit to organize a series of informational events, including the hybrid informational event “Meet ERUA,” where students had the opportunity to learn about the ERUA initiative and the opportunities the Alliance can offer, such as systematic access to the European academic environment through various interdisciplinary and intercultural experiences.

The visit also highlighted the cultural and social landscape of Lesvos, as well as the uniqueness of the multi-island and regional character of our university, which distinguishes its position within the Alliance.

The critical role of the University of the Aegean, as a multifaceted bridge within the ERUA Alliance, both at a geopolitical and scientific/research level as well as in terms of regional development, and its commitment to strengthening the social impact of academic life, were also key topics of discussion. This was to further define the common axes of interest and action for the universities collaborating within the Alliance.
